  • Cuisine: Traditional foods include Idli, Dosa, and Sambar, typically served on banana leaves. The state is also famous for its unique Filter Kaapi (coffee).

  • Architecture: Characterized by the Dravidian architectural style, featuring grand Gopurams (gateway towers) and detailed stone carvings.

History

The region's past is shaped by the "Three Crowned Kings"—the Cheras, Cholas, and Pandyas—who ruled for centuries and initiated maritime trade routes reaching as far as Rome and Southeast Asia. The Chola Empire (9th–13th century) attained its zenith under Rajaraja I and Rajendra I, constructing monumental architectures such as the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur. Modern Tamil Nadu was established along linguistic lines in 1956 and was officially renamed from Madras State in 1969.
